Nausea in Pregnancy
Nausea in Pregnancy

Nausea and vomiting during early pregnancy may signal the rise in hormones needed for a healthy pregnancy. Research suggests that nausea and vomiting during pregnancy might be due to the effects of a hormone made by the placenta, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). Nausea and vomiting tend to be the worst during the first trimester of pregnancy and usually start to resolve between 12 and 15 weeks of pregnancy. However, nausea and vomiting can occur at any time in pregnancy. If taking your prenatal vitamins is making nausea worse, make sure you are taking them with food or at nighttime. Some non-medicinal relief measures include:
● Eat small, frequent meals and avoid foods with strong odors or tastes.
● Stop smoking
● Suck on hard candy (sour, sweet, cinnamon or peppermint)
● Eat dry crackers, popcorn, or toast.
● Avoid low blood sugar levels; eat high-protein foods.
● Reduce fat (including fried foods) and spices in your diet.
● Exercise
● Wear an acupressure wrist band (Sea-Bands)
● Eat foods containing ginger (Ginger soda, ginger candies)
● Drink herbal teas- Ginger root tea, chamomile tea (throughout the day, especially at bedtime), Peppermint tea
