Pharmacies to Provide Abortion Pill

Pharmacies to Provide Abortion Pill. Earlier this year, the United States FDA approved the pharmaceutical distribution of the abortion medication, mifepristone, or Mifeprex. The other medication used in a medical abortion, misoprostol, had already received FDA approval for pharmacies to dispense with a prescription. This new measure will increase abortion pill access in states where abortion is legal. Previously, these medications had to be obtained from abortion providers.

Pharmacies wanting to provide mifepristone pills will be required to complete guidelines issued by the FDA to qualify as dispensing sites. One stipulation is that the anonymity of the abortion prescriber be protected by the pharmacy and their identity remain unknown to the public. Retail pharmacies, Walgreens and CVS, have said publicly that they will offer the medication, according to the New York Times. Online pharmacies are also anticipated to provide the abortion pills with a prescription.

While access to medical abortion medications expands, the importance of pregnancy confirmation is essential for the safety of the mother. Confirming the location of the pregnancy, viability, and gestational age of the pregnancy is paramount when considering termination. Abortion pills will not be effective in terminating an ectopic pregnancy that occurs outside of the uterus. Symptoms of a ruptured ectopic can be masked by symptoms of the abortion medications. Delayed diagnosis and treatment of an ectopic pregnancy can be life-threatening. The viability and gestational age of the pregnancy will determine which procedures are available.

Medical abortions now account for over half of all elective abortions in the United States. With this increase, many women who begin a medical abortion will reconsider their decision and seek an alternative solution even while in the midst of the abortion pill regimen (Charlotte Lozier Institute). A reversal process, abortion pill reversal (APR), is available to women who have attempted to end their pregnancies by “the abortion pill.” The treatment involves the use of progesterone to reverse the effects of mifepristone, a hormone blocker. APR has been successful in over 68% of cases. The reversal is most effective if the treatment is administered within 72 hours of taking mifepristone. APR provides a national hotline that will connect a woman to an APR provider closest to her location.

Relationships can be amazing and fun or challenging and difficult. Both people in the relationship have value and worth and deserve to be treated well by their partner. It takes both people working together to have a healthy relationship. A Healthy Relationship: Respects the others opinions, beliefs and boundaries Actively listens to the other person to gain understanding not just to form a response. Is kind and treats the other person the way they want to be treated Is honest and truthful in all situations- no “white” lies Understands and is able to empathize when the other is going through a difficult time Perseveres standing strong together in tough times Protects Trusts to do things independently as well as together Gives, being able to compromise An Unhealthy Relationship: Jealous - does not trust Possessive-demanding of your time Selfish– not giving Intimidating- willfully scares Easily angered – not understanding Demanding- wants what they want when they want it Arrogant- thinks they are better than you Stubborn- not willing to compromise Forceful/Hurtful- does not respect you or your boundaries While this is not an extensive list, it gives you a good idea of the differences of a healthy vs. unhealthy relationship. Any relationship can go through a tough time. However, if you are in an unhealthy relationship that attacks your value and worth, there needs to be a change. If you are unmarried, you may need to put a hold on the relationship and seek counseling. If your partner is unwilling to see a counselor, you may need to move on. If you are married, you definitely need to seek counseling. Working on a relationship is not easy. Both partners need to be ready to work, make changes and grow into a more loving and solid relationship.
